Oklahoma earned their third commitment from Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna C.C. with the announcement from Emmanuel Beal on Sunday.

Beal is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound outside linebacker who prefers to play near the line of scrimmage. He isn’t the biggest guy chasing down quarterbacks, but Beal possesses natural instincts and the ability to break down in small spaces - which allows him to track ball carriers through multiple moves.

Much like his Lackawanna linebacker counterpart, and fellow Oklahoma commitment, Kapri Doucet, Beal reflects a shift to smaller and quicker pass rushers that can counter the size of behemoth offensive lines. It’s difficult for someone over 300 pounds to win the edge against someone with the speed and elusiveness that Doucet and Beal employ.

Beal’s size and quickness makes him difficult to get your hands on, but when he utilizes a natural body lean and a quick, subtle shoulder dip - Beal becomes an absolute nuisance for the big guys up front.

That threat to win the outside shoulder can also force offensive lineman to cheat and leave them vulnerable to an inside move. Beal is aware of this fact and will deke using that same quickness to gain an even more direct path towards the quarterback.

Not only does Beal win the inside rush, but he has the awareness and athletic ability to break up the pass.

Even though he’s only just a two-star, there’s a lot to like on Beal’s tape as a versatile pass rusher with a unique set of skills. I would expect him to come in and compete for playing time immediately following the departure of Eric Striker and Devante Bond at outside linebacker for Oklahoma.
