Proctor Out of the Shadows

Hey, did you notice that other guy?

For the last year, that's been the story for Owasso, Okla. 2018 safety Josh Proctor. Whether it was during pre-season scrimmages or big matchups against Union, Jenks, and Southmoore there was always someone else who came in with a bit more notoriety.

However, game after game and night after night it was Proctor that had people talking.

"Well I kinda came in knowing I had to prove myself. It helped my confidence so I think I had a pretty good year. And the attention I've gotten from is a life changing experience," Proctor admitted.

So much so that the once little known 6-foot-3, 186-pound defensive back would pick up an offer from Oklahoma on Nov. 18, his first college scholarship offer.

"When you get that first offer you have to stay humble but it also tells you that you have what it takes and that you need to work even harder," he said.

And how he has been announced as SoonerScoop.com's Oklahoma Sophomore of the Year.

"It's an honor, (a) blessing. I feel like I played to the best of my ability and I'm glad others think the same enough to rate me among the top players. And I just want to give God the glory," he said of the news of his award.

Though with his play as a sophomore, and two more years of development to come, it's certain to not be his last. But even with all of that early success he has no intention of slowing down on his path to more notoriety and, more importantly, fine-tuning his game and skillset.

"Yeah I want to focus on the weight room more. That's one thing I like to do but I think once I get I gain a little more muscle it'll help me physically on the field," he explained.

That kind of help can only help Proctor grow from a wildly successful season as our top sophomore in the state, an honor bestowed on the best prospect who had the best season of any in his class.
